Meagan Pearson's first at-bat of Louisiana College's doubleheader with Mississippi College was a less than eventful intentional walk.
Her next two at-bats, however, were proof to the fans in attendance at Coca-Cola Field as to why the junior shortstop strikes such fear in opposing pitchers as Pearson would hit home runs in back-to-back plate appearances, including a towering grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning, which would seal the deal on an 8-1 Lady Wildcat win in game one.
LC got the scoring started in the first inning, as sophomore catcher
Courtney Ivey drove a pitch off the top of the left center field wall for a double, driving in Pearson and
Meggie Burkett to put LC ahead 2-0.
Pearson would be all the offense
Mark Rosier's club would need from there, as she hit a line shot over the left center field wall for a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning, and followed that with her monstrous grand slam in the fifth inning, her team-leading sixth big fly of the season.
Pearson would finish 2-for-2 at the plate with three runs scored, two home runs and six RBI, the latter two numbers both accounting for new career highs.
Burkett and fellow senior
Emily Douglas also had big games for the Lady Wildcats, as both finished 2-for-4 at the plate.
LC senior pitcher
Leslie Eastham moved to 6-1 on the season with a complete game, five hit, one run outing.
Game two of the doubleheader was dominated by freshman pitcher
Nancy Bunting, who tossed a complete game shutout, giving up only two hits to earn her seventh victory of the season in an 8-0 LC win.
Ivey put together a 2-for-3 night together at the plate with three RBI and a run scored.
The doubleheader sweep moved LC 's record to 15-4 overall and 7-3 in American Southwest Conference play. The Lady Wildcats will travel to LeTourneau on Thursday to take on the Yellow Jackets in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. in Longview, TX.
