HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth women's squash head coach
Hansi Wiens has announced three new members will compete next season in the Class of 2019.
“We are very pleased to welcome Emma Roberts, Carly Rizzuto and Veronica Culhane to our team,” Wiens said. “All three young women bring strong skills and talent to the team and are expected to compete within the top nine of the starting lineup.”
Carly Rizzuto — Baltimore, Md. / Bryn Mawr
Throughout high school, Rizzuto was a U.S. Squash Scholar-Athlete Award winner and competed as the number one player on her team. Rizzuto achieved her highest ranking of 19 in the GU19 and was a Mid-Atlantic Regional champion in both the GU17 and the GU19 age groups.
Wiens on Rizzuto: Carly is a calm and composed player with a very positive attitude. She controls the "T" well and makes her opponent work for every point.
Emma Roberts — Wellesley, Mass. / Noble and Greenough
This past season was Roberts's second year as captain of the Noble's Girls Varsity Squash team. They finished out the year with their third consecutive ISL title and placed second in the New England Championship. In the GU19 division of US Squash, Roberts reached her highest ranking of 23 and placed third in the NEISA Individual Championship Class A and won the Massachusetts State Junior Championship.
Wiens on Roberts: Emma has a great control of the game and is a very strong, tactical player. She is focused throughout her matches and doesn't give up until the point is over.
Veronica Culhane — Brooklyn, N.Y. / St Ann's
Culhane received the William T. Ketcham Jr. Award for Most Improved Player this year and was the captain at St. Ann's. Culhane also achieved her highest ranking of 33 in the GU19. Her mother, Susannah Drake, is a Dartmouth '87.
Wiens on Culhane: Veronica is a player who is strong both physically and mentally. She has great racquet skills and shows tremendous ball control especially from the front of the court.
