NEW YORK – Former University of Vermont men's hockey forward Viktor Stalberg '09 has signed a one-year contract with the National Hockey League's New York Rangers. Stalberg joins his fourth NHL franchise after skating for Toronto, Chicago, and Nashville.
The 29-year-old split this past season between Nashville and the Milwaukee Admirals in the American Hockey League (AHL). In 25 NHL games, Stalberg posted two goals and eight assists for 10 points. He added a goal and two assists in six playoff games for the Predators.
The Gothenberg, Sweden native has played in 338 career NHL games, registering 62 goals and 70 assists for 132 points along with 182 penalty minutes. He collected a career-high 43 points during the 2011-12 campaign for the Blackhawks and won a Stanley Cup with Chicago in 2012-13.
Stalberg played three seasons at UVM and skated in 39 games all three years. He finished his NCAA career with 41 goals and 84 points, including a career-best 24 goals and 46 points during an All-American junior season in 2008-09. That year, he led the Catamounts to their second-ever Frozen Four berth.
