STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Stony Brook knocked off the Columbia softball team, 8-0 in five innings before the second game was cancelled due to weather during a road non-conference game.
After a perfect first inning from pitcher Tonia Wu, the Seawolves got the scoring started in the second inning, plating two runs on two hits in the inning.
Columbia cracked the hit column in the third, when Mackensy Lakian smacked a liner into left center for the lone Lion hit of the game.
The bottom half of the third inning was a big one for the home team, when Stony Brook added five more runs and Kayla Maloney relieved Wu in the circle. One more run by the Seawolves in the bottom of the fourth and a scoreless top half of the fifth made it a 8-0 final after five.
The second half of the doubleheader never got under way, as a wintry mix cancelled game two.
With the loss, Columbia drops to 4-16 (1-3 Ivy League) on the season.
This Friday, the Lions dive back into Ivy League play, visiting Yale for a 2 p.m. doubleheader which will be broadcast on the Ivy League Digital Network. The following day, Columbia takes on Brown at 12:30 p.m. in another conference pair.
