Kipchumba Sets Shorter Invitational Record In 800 Meter

ROME, Ga. – Emmanuel Kipchumba and Adrian Martin each recorded a first place finish at the Shorter Invitational. The Lady Flames and Flames combined for 11 more top-five finishes in Saturday's event at Barron Stadium.

Kipchumba was first in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:54.18. His time eclipsed the previous meet record of 1:56.33 that was set by Josiah Jenkins in last year's invitational.

Harold Smith, Terris Elliott, Seth Eagleson and Adam Gullette joined Kipchumba in the 800 meter. Smith was 10th (1:59.67), Elliott finished 11th (2:00.19), Eagleson crossed at 2:01.38 (15th) and Gullette was 17th (2:03.14).

Martin attained her first-place finish in the 100 meter dash with a mark of 12.47, just 0.01 seconds ahead of Southern Wesleyan University's Morgan Haney. Olu Oyedele placed 32nd (14.83) in the race.

Martin grabbed a third-place time (25.12) in the 200 meter dash. Kaitlynn Kincer joined her in the race and finished 42nd (29.89).

Jessica Childers grabbed two second-place finishes with a time of 5:28.72 in the 1 mile run and 2:16.05 in the 800 meter run. Cayce Bryan was right behind Childers at third-place in the 800 meter (2:16.24).

Brianna Prugh (2:26.74), Madison Riddle (2:27.53) and Audrey Smith (2:31.51) finished 14th, 16th and 23rd in the 800 meter run, respectively. Smith finished the 1500 meter run in fourth at 5:00.23.

The Lady Flames' final two top-five finishers were Elizabeth Sillcocks and Emily Bryan. Sillcocks was fourth (18:33.01) in the 5000 meter run and Bryan was fifth (1:07.20) in the 400 meter hurdles.

Danielle King was 22nd (21:43.08) in the 5000 meter and Monica Allison was 15th (1:14.21) in the 400 meter hurdles.

Camden Perez led a trio of Flames in the 5000 meter run and came away with a third-place finish (15:28.18). Joseph Crook was 12th (15:58.48) and Tim Yates ws 24th (17:08.38).

Rick Barry, Harold Smith and Alex Carter gave the Flames three more fifth-place performances. Barry (16.41) in the 110 meter hurdles, Smith (4:27.74) in the 1 mile run and Carter (4:11.86) in the 1500 meter run.

Joining Smith in the 1 mile run were Eagleson and Kipchumba. Eagleson was ninth (4:33.23) and Kipchumba was 12th (4:40.72). Nick Eckert (4:19.22) was ninth and Matt Jenkins (4:24.85) was 13th in the 1500 meter run.

Barry placed seventh in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 56.80. Brandon Harmon was 24th (53.79) in the 400 meter dash and 38th (24.07) in the 200 meter dash.

In the field events, Kincer was 24th in the long jump (4.33 meters). Alexis Qumsieh recorded a distance of 6.60 meters (30th) in the shot put and Lauren Hart was 31st (5.46 meters). Barry was seventh in the men's long jump with a leap of 6.62 meters and Hunter Goforth was 14th (6.04 meters).

The Flames and Lady Flames will have the next weekend off before heading to Knoxville for the Tennessee  Relays on April 10-11.
