ALLENDALE, Mich. – David Shaw (Sr./Red Springs, NC) of Saint Augustine's University is the men's national triple jump champion after leaping a career-best 51-11 in the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships on the Grand Valley State University campus Friday, May 22, 2015. Shaw, ranked 16th nationally in Division II, won the triple jump on his first leap. He beat Demorrio Leggett of Findlay, who placed second with a jump of 51-6¼.
Shaw scored the first 10 points for the Falcons, who are the two-time NCAA Division II men's outdoor champions. The Falcons are looking to score more points on Saturday after several more sprinters advanced to the finals of their respective events.
Immanuel Hutchinson (Jr./San Jacinto, CA) ran the second-best preliminary time in the men's 800-meter run (1:49.450), missing the fastest time by less than one second. Burkheart Ellis, Jr. (Jr./Raleigh, NC) qualified for the men's 200-meter dash finals with the fifth-fastest time (21.23 seconds), and Moussa Dembele (Sr./Dakar, Senegal) qualified for the men's 110-meter hurdles finals with the seventh-fastest time (14.081).
