Lowery Named Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District

FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State thrower J.R. Lowery has been named to the 2015 Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District Track and Field Team for District 2, as announced by CoSIDA Friday.
 
Athletes selected to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District teams must be starters or important reserve players on a university college team, who maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA.
 
Lowery, who holds a 3.31 GPA in law and society, has had an outstanding indoor and outdoor campaign in 2014 and 2015. He was previously named to the 2013-14 USTFCCCA Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Team, as well as to the 2013-14 All-Capital Athletic Conference Academic squad.
 
The Rohrersville, Md. native has had quite an impressive campaign in 2014 and 2015.
 
Competing as a sophomore in outdoor track and field, he most recently qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in the shot put after breaking the Frostburg State school record and winning the ECAC Outdoor Championships with a toss of 16.64 meter (54 feet, 7.25 inches).
 
This year's Capital Athletic Conference champion in the hammer throw, Lowery was named to the All-CAC First Team and holds the FSU record in the event. He qualified for the ECAC Outdoor Championships 14 times throughout the outdoor season and posted seven wins.
 
As a four-time All-CAC Second Team indoor track and field selection, Lowery broke the Bobcats' program record in the weight throw at the 2014-15 CAC Indoor Championships and posted two conference championship runner-up finishes in both the weight throw and the shot put in both the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. He also qualified for the ECAC Indoor Championships seven times while posting four wins.
 
The lone Bobcat to automatically qualify for the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships, Lowery will head to St. Lawrence University to compete in the shot put on Saturday, May 23 at 10:00 am.
