Panthers Lose in Thrilling Overtime Game

Box Score Atlanta, Ga. --- In a game that saw 13 ties and 11 lead changes, the visiting Paine College Lions were able to hold off the Clark Atlanta University Panthers in overtime, 125-120. Derek Harper had a team-high 27 points for CAU, with Alfonso Davis besting him by one point to lead the Lions with 28.

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) matchup saw PC leading CAU by as much as 16 in the first half and by 10 at halftime, a lead that the Panthers would gradually erase over the second half. Najee Whitehead's three-pointer with nine seconds remaining tied the game at 99, and sent it to overtime.

In the overtime period Paine was able to gain the early advantage, and made their free throws down the stretch to hold on as the final buzzer sounded.

Four other Panthers would join Harper in double-digits, with Earl Lawrence (18 points), Damien Enoch (18), Najee Whitehead (18) and Kenneth Green (17) adding to the offensive explosion.

The Lions had a total of seven players in double figures, with Denzel Dillingham (23 points), Arnis Libazs (19), Nathan Powell (13), Kaderious Compton (12), Don Quarles (12) and Arnold Okechukwu (10) joining Davis.

Clark Atlanta (3-13, 2-7 SIAC) will return to action on Thursday, January 29th as they take on Benedict College at Epps Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 PM. The Panthers will be celebrating "Alumni Night" as they welcome back all of their former students.
