Soccer Finishes Regular Season

NORMAL, Ill - The University of Idaho women's soccer team fell behind early and never recovered in a  0-8 loss to host Illinois State (13-5-0, 6-0-0) Friday night at very wet Adelaide Street Field.

“Illinois State is a top 50 team and they are extremely hard to defend because they have great movement on and off the ball,” head coach Derek Pittman said. “We didn't defend well as a team and they did a great job finishing their chances tonight.”

The Vandals had trouble holding off the Missouri Valley Conference Champions, who struck five times in the first half.

Over the second half, Illinois State recorded three more goals.

Freshman Josilyn Daggs added three shots over the match, with two on goal for Idaho. The Vandals finished with nine shot attempts.

“Hopefully we learned a hard lesson tonight – if you don't respect the details of the game and work hard for every minute than these results can happen,” Pittman said. “We still have a long way to go as a program but we are headed in the right direction. We will continue to work hard and make our Vandal fans proud.”

Idaho concludes regular season play with a 4-14-2 overall record and 4-2-2 in league play.

All other Big Sky opponents, excluding the Vandals, have matches tomorrow to determine who receives a berth to the Big Sky tournament, hosted by Montana.

In order for Idaho to advance, the Vandals need Sac State to either lose or draw against Portland State, Idaho State to either lose or draw against Weber State and North Dakota to defeat Northern Colorado.
