HAWKS WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT WITH 2-0 VICTORY OVER IONA

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Monmouth University women's soccer team collected its sixth consecutive win as the Hawks posted a 2-0 victory over Iona in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night on Hesse Field on The Great Lawn. Powered by second half goals from sophomores Julie Spracklin (Eastampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) and Alexis McTamney (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional), the Hawks improved to 12-4 overall and 7-1 in league play, while head coach Krissy Turner earned her 200th career victory in the process.

"It was a difficult night to play with the conditions but I thought we handled it well," stated Turner, whose current senior class has been a part of 50 of her career victories. "We created a lot of chances and continued to battle to get the first goal."

When asked to comment on Coach Turner's 200th career win, senior captain Kim Clemmer (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) said, "She is a great coach and deserves this accomplishment. She's so passionate about the game and has taught me so much in my four years here. She truly cares about her players and I feel honored to be a part of her great accomplishment."

Monmouth, which outshot Iona 11-3 in the first half, broke through in the 75th minute when freshman Rachelle Ross (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) worked her way to the end line and sent a cross into the box, where Spracklin fired a shot into the far net for her fifth goal of the season, and her fourth career game-winner.

The Blue & White doubled the advantage to 2-0 in the 87th minute when junior back Colleen Howard (Mount Laurel, N.J./Holy Cross) found McTamney for her sixth of the year and the forward's 17th career goal. Howard, who has 36 career starts in the back, registered her second career assist.

Turner added, "It was an excellent sequence that led to the first goal and a good finish by Julie. The second goal was a terrific pass by Colleen to find Alexis and another good finish."

The Hawks outshot Iona 18-7, forcing Lauren Ferris to make a season-high nine saves in net for the Gaels, while graduate student Nicole D'Agostino (Clarendon Hills, Ill./Hinsdale Central/Pitt) made one stop in net for the Hawks, who registered their third straight shutout, and ninth overall.

Monmouth returns to action on Saturday, October 25, when the Hawks travel to Marist for a MAAC match with the Red Foxes at 7:00 p.m.
