MONTEREY PARK, Calif.-- The Roadrunner women's swim team continued the A3 Performance Invitational on Friday with great success. Michaela Paige led the 'Runners as she cracked the Bakersfield record book again.
Paige (Jr., Lompoc, Calif., Cabrillo HS) posted a time of 56.13 in the final of the 100 fly Friday night. “Due to Michaela's injury, we chose to swim the 100 fly instead of the 200 free,” said Chris Hansen, Bakersfield Director of Swimming. “This shows how tough she is.” Paige now has the fifth-fastest time in CSUB history in the event, missing the fourth best time by only 0.01 seconds.
Paige was not the only 'Runner who had success on Friday as the 200 medley team missed out on breaking into the CSUB all-time Top 5 by a mere two tenths of a second after posting a time of 1:46.43. Hansen was also impressed with Paola Hernandez (So., Lompoc, Calif., Cabrillo HS) again: “Paola had a great prelim swim in the 200 free. She looked a little tired in the finals. She is swimming a lot of events. Paola continues to amaze me. I'm pumped to see her 100 free tomorrow.”
“Nicolette Goncalves and Delise Batiza both had great 400 IMs tonight!” said Hansen. “We are playing around with the way both these ladies swim the event. Delise's breaststroke is her weak stroke and it is improving every time she swims the event. Nicolette's back half has been an issue in the past and she really improved that tonight.” Batiza (Sr., San Ramon, Calif., Oregon State) finished 13th in the final with a time of 4:30.34, a season best by over 5 seconds, while Goncalves (So., Mississauga, Ontario, Erindale Secondary School) finished in 4:34.14 with a 23rd-place finish.
Dylana Milobar (So., Kamloops, B.C., Valleyview Secondary School) took on the 100 breast and impressed. “Dylana keeps improving every time she swims this event,” said Bakersfield's head coach. Milobar's time of 1:05.52 in the prelim was a season best. Hansen was also pleased with the squad as a whole for the second day in a row: “The women had some great swims today! Nicolette, Paola, Michaela, and Delise are scoring the team big points. Tomorrow is Kelsey Lange and Lauren Kaufman's day with the sprint events.”
The 'Runners will finish the A3 Performance Invitational on Saturday. They will compete in the morning prelim, then will take on the 1650 free in the 11 a.m. session, and will finish up with the evening session. Check back here for results and a recap of the whole meet.
