The William and Mary women's swimming team continued its strong showing at the Hokie Fall Invitational on Friday night, setting 11 more entries in the all-time lists including two times that rank second in school history. The Tribe remained fifth in the team standings with 259 points, while Virginia Tech (922) and Alabama (501) are atop the seven-team table.
200 Medley RelayThe night began in the 200 medley relay, where the team of
Noelle Klockner (Marlboro, N.J.),
Annie Valls (Miami, Fla.),
Jessie Ustjanauskas (West Hartford, Conn.), and
Megan Howard (McLean, Va.) swam 1:41.67 for fourth place overall. It was also the second-fastest time ever swum at W&M. The team of
Sophie Rittenhouse (London, England),
Allie Christy (Williamsburg, Va.),
Abby Mack (Wayne, Pa.), and
Jaimie Miller (Houston, Texas) was ninth in 1:43.88, which by coincedence is the ninth-fastest time in school history.
100 BreastValls was back in action in the 100 breast, where she took sixth overall in a time of 1:03.23. While it was just behind the school record she swam this morning, it was still the second-fastest race ever in school history. Valls did break her third school record of the day by timing 29.16 in the first 50 yards, blazing past her time of 29.52 from the prelims. Also in the 100 breast, Christy was 13th overall in 1:04.63, improving to a tie for eighth all-time, and junior
Jenny Lomicka (Henrico, Va.) was 15th in 1:05.31. Senior
Greta Schneider (Moorestown, N.J.) swam a lifetime-best 1:05.51 to improve to 16th in school history, and freshman
Jess Crowley (Acton, Mass.) was 24th on the night in 1:07.05.
100 FlyIn the 100 fly, Howard took fourth overall in 54.77 seconds, a season-best and the seventh-fastest race in school history. Sophomore
Georgie Crompton (Brooklandville, Md.) was sixth in 55.40 seconds, and Mack took 13th in 56.22. Ustjanauskas was right behind her in 56.30 seconds for 14th place, and freshman
Rachel Anderson (Clifton, Va.) was 23rd on the night in 57.41 seconds.
200 FreeThe 200 free saw Miller finish 18th in 1:50.41, and
Jess Russell (Brunswick, Maine) improved to seventh in school history with her 20th-place 1:51.06. Sophomore
Selina Fuller (Henrico, Va.) finished 23rd overall, stopping the clock in 1:52.58.
400 IMIn the 400 IM, freshman
Emma Merrill (Fairfax, Va.) had the first of her two collegiate-best performances on the night, winning the bonus finals in 4:30.42. That improved her to 10th in school history. Lomicka was right behind her in 4:30.86 for 18th, and Anderson was 22nd in 4:33.41.
100 BackRittenhouse swam 56.05 for 12th overall in the 100 back, and Klockner was 14th in 56.44 seconds. Merrill improved to 13th all-time with her 57.04 performance, and
Kitty Arenz (Greenwich, Conn.) swam 57.22 seconds to leap up into a tie for 14th all-time. Russell was 23rd overall in the race, stopping the clock in 57.97 seconds.
800 Free RelayThe final event of the session was the 800 free relay, which saw the squad of Fuller, Russell, Klockner, and Miller finished 10th overall in 7:34.81. That was the 13th-fastest performance in school history. The Tribe's "B" line-up of
Noland Butler (Fredericksburg, Va.), Arenz,
Hannah Vester (Cincinnati, Ohio), and
Elena Marsilii (Falls Church, Va.) was 15th overall, with a combined time of 7:44.68.
The Hokie Fall Invitational wraps up on Saturday, with prelims and finals in six more events. The qualifying session begins at 10 a.m., with races in the 100 free, 200 back, 200 breast, and 200 fly.
