Men?s Golf Returns to the Tee this Weekend in Indiana

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---The season is off to a quick start for the Chattanooga Mocs Men's Golf squad. Six Mocs head to Indiana this weekend for the third event on the docket, the Wolf Run Intercollegiate.

The par 71, 7,155-yard Wolf Run Golf Course welcomes a 15-team field. Along with Chattanooga, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Penn State and defending champ Illinois play 36 holes Saturday, September 20, with a final 18 on Sunday.

Four Mocs are making their third starts in Liam Johnston, Ewan Scott, Wes Gosselin and Andrew Weathers. Zac Stolz returns to the lineup this week, while Brooks Thomas plays as an individual.

Format: 54 holes - 36 holes on Saturday followed by a final 18 on Sunday.

2013 Results: Illinois led from start-to-finish winning by 33 shots over Auburn with an 8-under par total of 844 (282-281-281). The Fighting Illini was the only team to shoot under par (284) for the two days.

Best Chattanooga Finish: 1st time in the event.

Team Records: 1st time in the event.

Best Individual Finish: 1st time in the event.

Ind. Records: 1st time in the event.

A Look Back & a Look Ahead
Last Time Out
: Wes Gosselin tied his career-low total of 215 (-1) tying for 19th at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate. He led Chattanooga to a 10th-place finish at 7-over 871. The team opened with a 2-under 286 before turning in rounds of 294 and 291.

Next Up: The Mocs make the short trip to Duluth, Ga., for the AutoTrader.com Collegiate. The event is October 13-14 at Berkeley Hills Country Club in suburban Atlanta.

Chip Shots   
- Chattanooga has met just one team in this week's field in 2014-15 and that's Florida. The two squads opened the slate together at the Carpet Capital Collegiate. The Mocs topped the Gators by 31 strokes at the Farm.

- Through two events, the squad is averaging 289.50 strokes per round. At this point last season, that average was 299.00 for a team that narrowly missed advancing to the NCAA Championships.

- This week's lineup features: Andrew Weathers, Ewan Scott, Liam Johnston, Wes Gosselin and Zac Stolz. Brooks Thomas tees it up as an individual.

- Johnston has the lone top 10 of the seasons so far ending up tied for 10th at the prestigious Carpet Capital Collegiate to start the year. He leads the Mocs in scoring (72.17), birdies (23) and par 5 scoring (4.58) at 10 under. Johnston is 1 over through 108 holes in 2014-15.

- Scott is not far behind Johnston at 72.67 strokes per round in two events. He is 4 over so far and leads the team in pars (73) and fewest bogeys (17).

- Weathers is off to a good start to his collegiate career. He leads the squad in par 3 scoring (2.92) and is 2 under for those holes, while also pacing it in fewest others with two. His stroke average is 71.50 in his four counting rounds.

- Gosselin improved by 14 shots from tourney one to two. He led the team at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate finishing tied for 19th at 1 under. His 215 for 54 holes tied his career best, but it is his best tally in a team event.

- Stolz gets his second start qualifying ahead of Thomas. Thomas is making his first appearance as an indiviudal this year at Wolf Run.

- Scoring Avg by Hole Type: Par 3: 3.09 (Weathers, 2.92) | Par 4: 4.09 (B. Thomas, 4.00) | Par 5: 4.78 (Johnston 4.58).

- Team season bests: 18: 282, Carpet Capital (2) | 36: 573, Carpet Capital | 54: 866, Carpet Capital

- Indiv. season bests: 18: 66, Liam Johnston, Carpet Capital (2) | 36: 142, Liam Johnston, Carpet Capital | 54: 212, Liam Johnston, Carpet Capital.
